“What Echoes in the Small Mountain: Park Dae-sung and the West Coast” at the Asian Art Museum (ENDING: July 13, 2026)
A never-before-seen painting inspired by the vistas of Yosemite makes its debut in this selection of works by Park Dae-sung (b. 1945), a renowned contemporary artist credited with reinventing the techniques of traditional Korean ink painting. Alongside new compositions based on California landscapes, the exhibition features three epically scaled paintings gifted to the museum collection two decades ago, shown together here for the first time.
Ha Chong-Hyun: Retrospective at the Asian Art Museum (OPENING: September 25, 2026 to January 25, 2027)
For over six decades, pioneering artist Ha Chong-Hyun (b. 1935) has explored what painting becomes when freed from all existing conventions. Ha’s work prizes the interaction of his materials: using pressure, gravity, and tools ranging from torches to everyday utensils, he transforms the surfaces of canvases up to eight feet tall into a treasure trove of texture and physicality. His first museum exhibition in North America, Ha Chong-Hyun: Retrospective offers an unprecedented look at the creative evolution of one of Korea’s most influential contemporary artists.
