Senior Care & Empowerment | Honoring Our Elders

In 2025, KACF-SF joined a national study on the older Korean American adults across major cities in the US. Findings from the seniors from San Francisco revealed a community at a critical crossroads, where a 69% surge in the Korean American senior population over the last decade has outpaced the available support systems.

Today, 6 in 10 Korean seniors cannot afford basic necessities like rent, food, and healthcare, with a staggering 81% facing significant language barriers that lock them out of essential government benefits. This systemic isolation is further compounded by a rise in mental health struggles and a persistent cultural stigma that prevents many of our seniors from seeking help.

Our Partners In Action

상항한미노인회

Korean American Community Services, Inc. (KACS)

KACS provides the only Korean lunch program in Santa Clara County, offering a popular sanctuary where hot meals meet deep social connection. With KACF-SF support, they have expanded food security and wellness programs that reflect familiar flavors and cultural norms, significantly reducing social isolation for our most vulnerable seniors.

Maru Center (formerly known as KCCEB)

KACF-SF has been the foundational partner in transforming the Maru Center into a regional leader for Korean American advocacy. What began as a local information line for Bay Area Koreans has evolved into a sophisticated, multi-lingual safety net that bridges the gap between our community and essential government resources. By investing in Maru Center’s vision, we have moved from simply providing "help" to creating "systemic change," ensuring that every Korean senior and family can navigate life in the Bay Area with dignity, health, and security.

Korean American Senior Services, Inc. (KASSI)

KASSI is a vital lifeline for monolingual Korean American seniors in their 80s and 90s. Every Saturday, this volunteer-led organization opens its doors to serve hot Korean meals and provide a venue for social interaction. It is more than a center; it is a community home where our eldest neighbors find respect, inclusion, and a sense of belonging.

KACF-SF drives systemic change through community-led grantmaking and authentic partnerships. Together, we are addressing the most pressing needs of Korean Americans in the Bay Area and beyond.
