NAMI SMC November Speaker 11/12:
When a Loved One Is in Crisis: What Families Need to Know
Join NAMI San Mateo County on Wednesday, November 11 for a hybrid Speaker Series event featuring Cameron Quanbeck, MD, Briana Fair, LCSW, Sunny C. Seth, MD, and Sandra Piedra, MS, RN, CEN, CPEN, NE-BC.
When someone you love is in a mental health crisis, the information you share with a clinician in that moment matters. It can shape whether your loved one receives the level of care they need, including whether an involuntary hospitalization happens. Too often, families don't know what to say, what forms exist, or where to turn, and loved ones go without needed care simply because the right information wasn't available at the right time.
Join us for an evening with local experts who will help caregivers feel prepared and confident.
You'll learn how to:
Find, complete, and submit the AB 1424 form, and know who should receive it
Understand the new admission criteria under SB 43
Recognize when to call on the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT) and countywide crisis response teams
Understand how emergency departments across the county differ, and why Sutter Health Mills-Peninsula and San Mateo County Medical Center are better equipped to triage care for a loved one in crisis
