Table Talk: The JCCSF Foodways Series
Kristyn Leach of Namu Farm is more than a farmer – she’s a community organizer and environmental justice advocate who incorporates radical natural farming methods that prioritize soil health. As a Korean adoptee, growing Korean chilies and herbs has become a way for Kristyn to connect her past and future. She recently partnered with Kitazawa Seed Company, the oldest seed company in the US specializing in Asian vegetable varieties, to preserve heritage and second-generation seeds, ensuring genetic diversity. Coming at the tail-end of Chuseok, a Korean harvest festival, we partner with local Korean chefs, Steve Joo and Julya Shin of Nokni, to craft a menu celebrating agriculture, ties to the land, and the ability for seeds (and the vegetables they become) to carry cultural lineage.
